The third edition of the SHARE Forum in Slovenia will take place on 25th of April 2023, at the Intercontinental Ljubljana Hotel. “Sustainable facades: Design and technology,” and “Large-scale development projects” are the main themes that will be explored during the program of the International Architecture and Technology Innovation Forum.
SHARE Slovenia 2023 will provide attendees with access to knowledge and new opportunities for collaboration. MEET THE GUEST | Roland Bechmann, Director Werner Sobek, Germany
As the head of the competitions department, Roland specializes in project management, lightweight structures, and steel constructions. His vast experience in high-rise projects includes the ADAC Headquarters in Munich/Germany, the Hegau Tower in Singen/Germany, and the 400-meter Olympic Tower in Nanjing/China. Additionally, Roland has managed various large-scale and intricate projects, such as the World Expo 2017 in Astana/Kazakhstan and the underground railway station in Stuttgart/Germany. Since 2013, Roland has also served as the Country Representative of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

National Museum of Qatar
In the course of Doha’s development into a global financial, cultural and tourism center, a new national museum was built in the capital of Qatar. Due to its size and geometric complexity, the building designed by Jean Nouvel required the highest standards of planning and installation of the building envelope. The basic idea of the design was the complex, rosette-like structures of so-called sand roses – structures that form naturally in the desert during the evaporative crystallization of gypsum.
This motif was used to develop a building complex that measures approximately 400 m × 250 m in footprint. It reaches up to 40 m in height. The National Museum is composed of 600 different, discus-shaped elements that are intersected with each other. Based on a master detailed design and tender by Jean Nouvel, the overall project was awarded to the Korean general contractor Hyundai at the end of 2011.

The central component of the planning process was a BIM model (Building Information Modeling). All the specialist planners and contractors involved were able to continuously feed their planning results into this model. In this way, it was possible to get a grip on the high geometric complexity of the project and prevent collisions of individual components. The BIM model was managed in the Gehry Technologies software system. Due to the enormous size of the project and its extremely high level of detail (LOD 400), it was at the time the largest model of its kind in the world.

Ship Lifting Installation Niederfinow
After 14 years of construction, the ship lift in Niederfinow was officially inaugurated on 4 October 2022. Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural engineering of the 520 million euro project.

The vertical lift overcomes a height of about 37 metres – and does so in about 30 minutes of lock passage. The actual lifting process only takes about 3 minutes. In future, the new ship lift will also enable larger cargo ships, such as the “Great Rhine Ship” with a length of 110 metres and a width of 11.4 metres and a total weight of 3,500 tonnes, to navigate the Oder-Havel Waterway.

The structure made of reinforced concrete and steel has a length of approx. 130 m, a width of 50 m and a height of 60 m. The connection to the upper outer harbour is made via a 65 m long steel canal bridge.
The Brick 2.0
The Brick 2.0 is an office building of Deutsche Bahn AG in Frankfurt am Main with a 66-metre high tower – the DB Tower. The building is part of the Boulevard Mitte quarter and is based on the concept of the urban city within the city.
Schmidt Plöcker Architekten from Frankfurt is responsible for the architecture, while Werner Sobek was in charge of the structural design. The Brick has a total of six upper floors, a technical floor above and an underground car park. The building is approximately 26 m high.
