Dedication celebrated: Arch. Branislav Mitrović’s work was honored with SHARE OMNIA AWARD

Professor Emeritus and Academic in SANU (SASA) – Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Branislav Mitrović was awarded the SHARE OPERA OMNIA AWARD in honor of his lifelong contribution to the field of architecture and urban planning, continuous and persistent architectural research, energetic breaking of the boundaries of architectural discipline and especially academic and professional raising of generations of architects in Serbia.

He was awarded on the 23rd of November, during the International Architecture Forum – SHARE Belgrade 2022, an event organized by SHARE Architects, the largest network dedicated to architecture and construction professionals in Central and South Eastern Europe, together with The Union of Architects Serbia and with the support of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture. The award was handed out by arch. Milan Djuric, President of the Union of Architects Serbia, and Florin Mindirigiu, Founder of SHARE Architects.

 ”We are honored to award the SHARE OPERA OMNIA AWARD at the fourth edition of SHARE Belgrade 2022, on November 23 to Professor Emeritus Branislav Mitrović.

Professor Emeritus and Academic in SANU (SASA) – Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Branislav Mitrović, an Architect with a capital “A” – SHARE OPERA OMNIA AWARD is awarded in recognition of his lifelong contribution to the field of architecture and urban planning, continuous and persistent architectural research, energetic breaking of the boundaries of architectural discipline and especially academic and professional raising of generations of architects in Serbia.

Life

Architect Branislav Mitrović was born on 28 November 1948 in the city of Bar, in Montenegro. After the graduation from the Highschool (Gimnazija), he entered the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade in 1967. He graduated in 1974 in the Studio of Professor Uroš Martinović. Between 1977 and 1986, he was employed at the Design Institute of the company “Srbijaprojekt” in positions ranging from independent to leading designer. From 1986 to 1990 he worked at the Research and Design Centre – CIP Belgrade as leading designer. 

 

Career 

He started the academic career in 1990, when he was elected as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade at the course of Architectural Space Analysis. In 1995, he was elected as an associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade for courses Design 3, Spectacle Objects and Architectural Analysis 1, 2, 3. From 1995 to 1997 Mr. Mitrović was Chief of the Department of Design at the Faculty of Architecture. Since the 1997/98 academic year, he has been leading STUDIO 11 at the Department of Design. 

Branislav Mitrović was elected Full-time Professor of the Faculty of Architecture in 1998. He was elected the first Professor Emeritus at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture in 2015.  He is regular member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia (AESS) since 2012. He was accepted as a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA-SANU) in 2006 and elected as a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2012. In 2003, he won the Grand Award of the Union of Architects of Serbia for his lifetime achievement.

Involvement of Architect Branislav Mitrović in the affirmation of the profession began with his admission to The Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia in 1977. In the period from 1983 to 1989, he was a member of the Presidency of the Association of Belgrade Architects and of the Presidency of the Union of Architects of Serbia since 1987. He was the President of the Union of Architects of Serbia from 1993 to 2001. Member of Association of the Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia, Association of Belgrade Architects, Union of Architects of Serbia, UIA UNESCO, ISOCARP, WCC; ICOGRADA.

Architect Branislav Mitrović participated in over 150 architectural competitions and won more than 100 awards. Professor Mitrović is the author of about 40 completed works of architecture. He  received 40 professional and social awards.

The most significant works of architecture completed by Architect Branislav Mitrović are: Residential building built in 1985 in Užice, Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1990 together with arch. S. Lazarević, 1996 – Residential building in Višegradska street, Belgrade (co-author arch. Z. Gaković). In 1997, the Zepter Palace in Kralja Petra Street in Belgrade, together with arch. V. Milunović. Residential building in Kumanovska Street in Belgrade. In 2002, the HVB Bank building in Kralja Petra Street in Belgrade. In 2008, family house in Koste Vojnovića Street, Belgrade (co-author J. Kuzmanović), In 2011 Centar Hotel in Novi Sad (J. Kuzmanović, N. Zimonjić, I. Pantić, O. Krašna, S. Tatalović). In 2014 Administrative building of the Hydroelectric Power Plant on Drina River, in the city of Višegrad, Bosnia and Hercegovina (S. Tatalović, O. Krašna), In 2017 condo hotel Kamenovo in Montenegro (S. Tatalović, O. Krašna), Royal Gardens, Budva (Jelena Kuzmanović).

He received the following professional and social awards:

• Institute of Architecture and Urban and Spatial Planning of Serbia for the best graduation project in 1974; 
• Republic awards of the newspaper Borba for the best architectural achievement at the territory of the Republic of Serbia in 1986 & 1991; 
• Special awards of the Union of Architects of Serbia in 1989 & 1983; 
• Grand prizes of the Salon of Architecture in 1990, 1998; 
• Special prizes of the Salon of Architecture in 1990, 1998; 
• City of Belgrade October Awards for architecture in 1990, 1996; 
• Federal awards of the newspaper Borba for the best architectural achievement at the territory of the SFR Yugoslavia for the year 1991; 
• City of Budva November Award in 1994 for achievements in the field of Architecture and Urban and Spatial Planning in that area; 
• Grand prizes of the Salon of Architecture of Novi Sad DANS for completed building in 1997, 1998; 
• Annual awards of the Union of Architects of Serbia in 1997; 
• Prizes of the Salon of Architecture of Novi Sad DANS for interior design in 1999; 
• Annual awards of the Magazine Kuća stil for interior design in 1999;
•  Awards of the newspaper Borba for architecture for the most successfully completed architectural project on the FR Yugoslavia in 2000; 
• Grand awards of the Union of Architects of Serbia in 2002; 
• Awards of the Union of Architects of Serbia for the best executed building in 2002; 
• In 2003 received Grand Award of the Union of Architects of Serbia and the Academy of Architecture for his work; 
• The “Novosti” Award for the year 2004 for the best executed work on the territory of Serbia and Montenegro;
• “Aleksandar Šaletić” Award of the May Salon in 2005 for the interior design of the Hypo-Alpe-Adria bank branch office in Belgrade. 
• The 2009 Award of the May Architecture Salon and special recognition of the Architecture Salon for religious buildings; 
• Lifetime Achievement Award of the Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia (ULUPUDS);
• The 2014 International III prize of CEMEX for the constructed administration building of the Hydroelectric Power Plant on Drina River;
• He is also the winner of two Ranko Radović awards for the executed work of architecture in 2012 and 2016.

 

Since the mid-2000s, as a co-founder of the architectural studio “MIT-ARH”, Architect Branislav Mitrović has fully completed and implemented significant works of architecture, some of which have already been mentioned, participated in architectural competitions where he won awards and recognitions through the studio in the industry, and at the Faculty of Architecture he successfully raises new generations of highly educated architects in the spirit of a particularly energetic and visually specific, technologically complete, one can even say radical architectural expression in full forceful appearance.” Milan Djuric, President of Union of Architects in Serbia.

SHARE Architects Network – Connecting architects and contractors in Central and South Eastern Europe

The fourth edition of the International Architecture and Engineering Forum, SHARE Belgrade 2022, took place on 23rd of November at the  Metropol Palace Hotel. The event gathered in Belgrade speakers from UK, The Nethelands, Turkey, France, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia. 

SHARE Architects Forums have become, over the past 25 years, an essential networking platform for architects and contractors in Central and South Eastern Europe. SHARE creates an effective platform for knowledge and understanding of the diversity of the architectural phenomenon of the contemporary architecture. Currently,  SHARE Architects community counts more than 50,000 members from all over the world.
