Here are some thoughts from the jury members in conversations about “How would you describe the evolution of the architectural field in Eastern Europe in the last 30 years?“
Over the past 30 years, Eastern European architecture has transformed significantly. Soviet era architecture encompassed exceptional experimental architecture, as well as one size fits all anonymity. It is now the time to continue fostering a design identity for the region based on the uniqueness of the former!
Manuela Gatto, Director Zaha Hadid Architects, UK
In Eastern Europe I have visited magnificent architecture that belongs most absolutely to the present, great experiments, perfectly successful, driven by the audacity of the Project capable of assigning important values to a place.
Roberto Beraldo, co-founder of Beraldo&Marras Architetti Associati, Italy
The evolution of architecture in Eastern Europe over the last 30 years has transitioned from Soviet-era modernism to experimental, individualistic, and contextual design approaches. This shift reflects integration into the global design community, leading to the adoption of Western architectural influences. Despite initial challenges, a new generation of architects has emerged, blending local and global inspirations to innovate and shape the architectural landscape in Eastern Europe.
Kamran Afshar Naderi, co-founder of KAN Artworks & Memar Magazine, Iran
