Biography

ABOUT

Odette Lewis holds a Bachelor in Architecture and Civil Engineering (2001) and a Master’s in Road Engineering (2004) from the University of Malta, where she also completed her PhD in 2013. She was awarded a DAAD scholarship for her PhD research at the University of Siegen, Germany, in 2007. A warranted perit since 2003, Odette has worked in both public and private sectors, including roles at Transport Malta, managing EU-funded transport infrastructure projects. Since 2009, she has lectured at the University of Malta and is currently Head of the Department of Spatial Planning and Infrastructure. Her expertise and research interest lies in infrastructure planning, with a focus on green and smart mobility. She provides consultancy services in road transport infrastructure policy, planning, and design. She is also a Board Member at the Lands Authority in Malta.

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTITUTION

The University of Malta traces its origins to the founding of the Collegium Melitense in 1592. Situated at Tal-Qroqq, it is the highest teaching institution of the State by which it is mainly financed and is open to all those who have the requisite qualifications. There are over 11,000 students including some 600 international students from 78 different countries, following full-time or part-time degree and diploma courses, most of them run on the modular or credit system. Some 3,000 students graduate in various disciplines annually. The degree courses at the University are designed to produce highly qualified professionals with experience of research, who will play key roles in industry, commerce and public affairs in general.
