Start year: 15.02.2020
The restoration of Kunvent Santu Wistin in Valletta was a project of deep professional and personal significance for our firm, Paul Camilleri & Associates. Beyond the careful conservation of historical features, the project introduced key accessibility upgrades—including a new lift and connecting bridges—ensuring the convent remains a vital space for culture and community. It was also an adaptive reuse project that evolved into an active archaeological site following the discovery of remnants of one of Valletta’s earliest churches, attributed to Girolamo Cassar. The intervention also enabled the repurposing of internal spaces to house three distinct museums dedicated to paintings, historical documents, and religious artifacts. This sensitive transformation reflects PCA’s enduring commitment to preserving Malta’s architectural heritage while designing for future generations. The presence of President Myriam Spiteri Debono at the inauguration underscored the national importance of this work.
