Biography

Harry Dobbs founded HDD in 2004, following post graduate research at the Royal College of Art in London. As a Chartered Architect he has designed and delivered award winning public projects in London, Manhattan New York, Manchester, Riyadh & Doha, establishing an extensive track record leading integrated design teams on projects that range in scale from national strategies and urban masterplans through to site specific transformations and refined bespoke installations.

They include nationally important city destinations; smart public space, urban movement; community housing; creative work-hubs; retail destinations; as well as public art and educational initiatives. He has structured design briefs, advised on design consultant selection and managed international design competitions for a series of high- profile projects of an international standing (including The London 2012 Olympic Village). He has also advised the both UK Government and the UK Prime Minister’s office on current urban design, participative practice and the role of Creative Industries in cultural and economic development. His work has required a full understanding of the elements that come together to provide a socially vibrant and commercially engaging public environment, and its integration with wider urban management and infrastructure systems. Informed by his post-graduate research, his work regularly brings together academic and commercial research, art and culture, neighbourhood engagement, data analysis, governmental policy and industry expertise. His design work has been installed at international cultural and design institutions across the world including the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York and the National Gallery in London. He has been invited to speak at international Urban, Arts and Smart City conferences in Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, London, and Copenhagen. Harry has worked in Architectural Practice in London, Hong Kong, Austria and France.
