SHARE Experts Meeting: Educational Architecture

Romania is undergoing a major transformation in its educational infrastructure. Over €6 billion are being allocated, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and other public funding sources, for the construction and modernization of schools. Large-scale projects are underway: over 900 new educational facilities, 142 “green schools,” investments in kindergartens, integrated campuses, digital labs, and modern sports halls. Undoubtedly, this represents the most significant wave of investment in education in recent decades.

This transformation brings both major challenges and opportunities for architecture. Schools today are no longer just functional spaces—they must be safe, inclusive, flexible, sustainable, and centered on the needs of students. A new architectural vision is required, one that responds to modern pedagogy and new energy efficiency standards.

In this context, a special edition of the SHARE Experts Meeting focused on educational architecture becomes essential. It offers a valuable platform for dialogue between architects, public authorities, planners, educators, and developers—a space to share best practices, sustainable solutions, insights from recent projects, and visions for the school of the future.
