Plenary Session #1

Great Speaker Presentations

The sessions was moderated by Marta Ilievska, SHARE Society Partner North Macedonia & Founding partner Formika Plus.

Zsolt Gunther, Co-Founder 3H architects, Hungary |Spaces of Intensity’’

Zsolt Gunther presented two of their new buildings. The Corvin project slices out a specific area of the dilapidated building stock in downtown Budapest and replaces it with a completely renewed city fabric, which will house commercial, residential, and office buildings. The C5 office building is the last element of this development. It is not only an office building, it also canalizes the flow of people through a garland of intermediate spaces towards the underground station.

When designing the extension of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, the question of identity was carefully analysed. These issues mainly concerned how to connect it with László Moholy-Nagy, the pioneering design stylist of the Bauhaus movement, whose name the university bears. Two new buildings are grouped along a third, existing one on the campus, the latter one is an important piece of the so called socialist realistic era. The challenge of the design task was to create interactions among the buildings as for their appearance, as for their typology of voids and various phases of university education.

Pepe Gascón, Founder Pepe Gascón Arquitectura, Spain

Pepe’s natural ability to observe and analyze, combined with his travelling and regular attendance at libraries, conferences and exhibitions, has endowed him with endless reference points for each of the projects that he works on. His architecture and design are contextual, taking into consideration the intrinsic characteristics of the context in which they arise. This affords him the versatility to tackle different types of work, without needing to resort to just one single style.

Jana Gugulovska, Partner RADIUs Architects, North Macedonia
