Oana Gavriliu
Biography
Oana’s international healthcare expertise developed over 22 years, covers a wide range of healthcare buildings and commissions and was gained through a range of major projects in UK, Europe, Middle East and Australia applying British, Australian and US hospital design standards, working for large architectural practices with a long track record in healthcare design. She has particular expertise in developing Masterplans for large academic medical campuses that bring together healthcare, education and research, as well as designing paediatric hospitals and combined women’s and children’s facilities.
Driven by a desire to contribute to the greater good, Oana was drawn to healthcare architecture early in in her career. For her, it’s about supporting individuals through the best and worst times, creating spaces that enhance the human experience for both patients and those who dedicate their lives to healthcare. Passionate about innovation, Oana believes in the power of architecture to delight, calm and contribute to the wellbeing of patients, their families, and hospital staff.
Prior to joining Hassell, Oana was the Health Practice Leader for Perkins&Will’s London Studio where she led the design of Leeds Hospital of the Future and the new James Paget University Hospital, two of the largest New Hospital Programme schemes. Before that she worked for BVN Architecture in Sydney where she led the healthcare design for the Canberra Hospital Expansion project and the Randwick Health Innovation Precinct Masterplan.
Oana also spent seven years working for BDP in London where she was involved in leading the design and construction stages of the new children’s hospital in Dublin as well as the Masterplan and concept design for Great Ormond Street Hospital and its new Children’s Cancer Centre.
