The hospital is the largest base-isolated building in the world and features over 2,000 seismic isolators, as well as one million square meters of building space.
It was designed by the Washington D.C. office of Perkins and Will, in collaboration with Turkish firm Yazgan Design Architecture, to meet the ASCE 41 “Immediate Occupancy” seismic performance objective in the event of a rare earthquake. The hospital has 2,682 beds, of which approximately 400 intensive care beds. There are three hospital towers, six clinics, five ancillary facilities buildings, 90 operating rooms, and 4,300 medical staff. The hospital has the capacity to treat 32,700 patients per day.
