
Filippo Caprioglio was born on March 3, 1971. After completing classical studies, he graduated in Architecture from the IUAV University of Venice and later earned an M-Arch II degree from the Syracuse University School of Architecture, New York.
Since 2001, his academic career has included teaching architectural composition at Syracuse University and the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was awarded the prestigious Kea Distinguished Professorship in 2008. He has also served as Professor of Practice at Drury University and, since 2009, has been a faculty member at the Kent State University School of Architecture, where he continues to teach today. In 2016, he was invited by Prof. Wang Shu as a Visiting Professor at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China.
Alongside his academic activity, Filippo Caprioglio has developed an extensive professional practice, working independently and in collaboration with Caprioglio Architects on projects in Italy and abroad, across a wide range of scales and typologies. In recent years, his professional focus has been primarily on residential and mixed-use developments.
His work includes the design, transformation, interiors, and installations for private houses, apartments, retail concepts, office spaces, residential buildings, contemporary art venues, and urban design interventions in both Italy and the United States.
In parallel with architecture, he has pursued research and experimentation in industrial design, creating lamps, furniture, and everyday objects for Italian and international companies. In 2011, he received the prestigious Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum. In recent years, his single-family residential projects in Europe, the United States, and China have received numerous international awards and recognitions, including the A’ Design Award (2017, 2019, 2020), the BIG SEE Architectural Award 2021, and the Luxury Lifestyle Award 2021 for the Most Beautiful House in Italy. He was also nominated for Architect of the Year 2021 for the Spazio Berlendis project in Venice.
His most significant works have been widely published in leading international architecture and design magazines and books, including The New York Times, l’Arca, Dwell, Domus, and The Plan.
The Caprioglio Architects was founded in 1999 as natural prosecution, progress and unification of the offices based in Veneto and Friuli of architect Giovanni Caprioglio whom, with the son Filippo Caprioglio, gives more run to one new professional reality extended not only the national territory, but that expands it’s own possibilities also to international experiences and of the industrial design.
The values that the study promotes are those of the advanced culture of the project, above all for its attention to the real requirements of the client and of the historical and physical atmosphere in which it becomes part.
From the great publics complexes to the private building, the job of the Caprioglio Associates has fixed, in its temporal distance, episodes that have characterized the territory of belongings and enriched the research, technical and formal, of which the contemporary architecture it has made the own flag. The Italian design is one of the enrichment values that the office can offer among the other peculiarities.
